About the CMBA

The Association

Canada Mink Breeders Association (CMBA) is a not- for- profit association formed in 1952. Its members are Canadian mink farmers that support the Association through a pelt levy on pelts sold at auction.

Mandate

The CMBA on behalf of its members provides leadership in research, best farming practices, marketing, and promotion of the interests of the fur farming sector nationally and internationally. Its goal is to ensure the permanent prosperity of the Canadian mink farming industry.

Governance

Each year provincial fur breeder associations select delegates to represent their associations at the CMBA Annual Meeting. From these delegates is elected a seven person Executive Committee. In addition up to three Directors-at-Large may be elected from individuals that have provided long and distinguished service to the Association. The Executive Committee and Directors-at-Large form the CMBA Board of Directors. The Board of Directors provides oversight for the Association with assistance from an Executive Director throughout the year. The Board operates using a committee structure. The committees include: Ecology, Government Liaison, Marketing, Legislative, Membership and Education, Research, and Finance and Administration.

The CMBA through North American Fur Producers Inc. is a major shareholder in North American Fur Auctions - a wholely producer owned international fur auction.

Activities

The CMBA assists provincial Associations with educational forums, speakers and financial assistance. The CMBA Annual Meeting rotates through producing provinces providing members with a regular opportunity to connect with their elected representatives.

The CMBA is active with other Canadian livestock producers with membership in the National Farm Animal Care Council (NFACC) and the Canadian Animal Health Coalition (CAHC).

Strategic Plan

Through the development of a strategic plan CMBA has defined its course and direction taking it to 2020.
